John of Gaunt's sorrowful soliloquy in Richard II is also worth reading and contemplating. The words that Shakespeare gives to John of Gaunt are almost prophetic, England, "leased out, like to a tenement or pelting farm", and "bound in shame with inky blots and rotten parchment bonds". Of course the same applies to the US.
