I don't think he would really care one way or another as long as the "Mass" is the Freemason approved, Protestant "worship" service. And when he answered you he would not worry about answering you respectively.
Which is messy, braking with the old=irrelevant, amateurish, unpleasant/painful to the ears and the intellect, humbly not striving for beauty and harmony, mediocre in defiance of ideal? - Answer this and you will have his answer.
