Imagine how the history of the world may have been changed had this man become Pope. Imagine how the history of Scotland might have changed, too. As an old admirer of Scotland and its people I can only dream of the glories that could have been.
Enjoy!
It is not my intention to criticize Cardinal Henry Stuart, he may have possessed fine virtues of statesmanship, but the same cannot be said of his ancestors. The Stuart 'regime' in the British Isles starting in 1603 and ending in 1714 was an unmitigated disaster for Catholicism. The were a pretty sordid and disreputable bunch, worse in fact than that other family of usurpers the Tudors.
ReplyDeleteIf there is such a thing as the last legitimate king of England perhaps it was Richard III.
Thanks, Anon, for the comment. I am sure old Hilaire Belloc would have agreed!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes for Christmas.
